Australian 2024 Uncirculated Mint Set
The Set
The 2024 mint set commemorated the change of monarch that followed the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, and it did so with a concept unique in Australian coinage: each of the six denominations carries a different portrait. Five coins bear effigies of Queen Elizabeth II spanning her seventy-year reign, from Mary Gillick's 1953 portrait onward, while the two dollar carries the new Dan Thorne effigy of King Charles III. The set was released on 8 February 2024, capped at 100,000 sets, and priced at $40.00.
The Six Portraits
The denominations are paired with the portraits in chronological order, so that reading the set from the 5 cent to the 2 dollars is a walk through seven decades of royal portraiture:

Every coin is dated 2024, so the set gives the 5 cent the distinction of carrying the Gillick portrait on a decimal coin for the first time, and pairs the one dollar with the memorial version of the Clark portrait introduced after the Queen's death. The reverses remain the standard designs for each denomination, keeping the focus of the set firmly on the succession itself.
For collectors of royal portraiture - a popular specialty - the set is a one-product type collection spanning the whole reign, and it sits naturally beside the 2016 "Changeover" set, the other great obverse-themed issue of the modern series. Capped at 100,000 sets, it is also among the smaller-mintage year sets of recent years, and complete sets in their original packaging are worth keeping that way.
